La Difference
Words and
music by Edward H. (Ted) Snider
December 25, 1972
I have travelled
o'er hills and o'er valleys,
From the east to the west of this land.
I have heard many people a talkin',
And sometimes they're hard to understand! (Chorus)
Chorus
From the rock to B. C. there's constant chatter,
From Quebec to Ontario and then
You can hear us on rivers and oceans,
From the south to the north and back again! (last line add "eh
?")
"I am to where you're at in Newfoundland.
And "some pretty" in Prince Edward Isle.
When I hear it I know that we're different,
And I know that we'll stay that way awhile! (Chorus)
Dans la Province de Quebec on parle,
En Français, en joual, mais partout,
On comprends dans les cantons et village,
Nous sommes la, et nous aimons notr' chez nous! (Chorus)
We've got Bluenosers by the Atlantic
And Acadians are not far away,
Herring chokers and peasoups they mingle,
And their saying I think are here to stay! (Chorus)
We say "out" and not "owt" in this country,
Round the circle its b'y meaning boy,
In the Ottawa Valley its somethin',
And to hear them to me is such joy! (Chorus)
There are Upper Canadians surely
Who never get down from their horse,
But the times they are changing so quickly
And we have no time for remorse. (Chorus)
We're called hayseeds out here on the Prairies,
In Alberta as oilers we're kings,
Apple knockers down here in the valley
In our hearts hope for Canada springs. (Chorus)
In Victoria we're terribly British,
And the flowers they bloom merrily!
To hell with the rest of the country
We're sipping our own cup of tea! (Chorus)
Inuit speak their tongue in the Northland
And the Indians sing their own songs
We say Chimo for our toast of friendship,
And together we must stay to grow strong! (Chorus)
